Physicians who are eligible to participate in the Merit-based Incentive Program (MIPS), have until October 2, 2017 to begin collecting 90 consecutive days of data for the first year of the program. Eligible Clinician (ECs) must submit data for at least 90 consecutive days to avoid a negative payment adjustment, and be eligible for a positive payment adjustment. ECs who are eligible to participate in MIPS but choose not to submit data, will receive a negative 4% payment adjustment in 2019.
MIPS is one of the two tracks within the Quality Payment Program (QPP), which is part of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015. MIPS replaces three Medicare reporting programs:
- Medicare Meaningful Use scotch
- Physician Quality Reporting System
- Value-Based Payment Modifier
Please note: Clinicians can determine their eligibility for MIPS by using this web-based tool.
