The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has launched the NYC Heart Age Calculator: an online tool that estimates a person’s heart age and risk of cardiovascular disease. A person with a heart age older than their actual age is at greater risk for heart disease and stroke, and the average New Yorker has a heart age of nearly six years older than their actual age.
The tool shares tips to improve heart health based on users’ self-reported information. The tool also includes resources for managing high blood pressure, overweight and obesity, diabetes, and smoking. It is designed for people between the ages of 30-74 who do not have a history of cardiovascular disease.
