Due to the COVID-19 emergency, CMS has extended the deadline for all Quality Payment Program (QPP)-eligible clinicians to submit their 2019 Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) data to April 30. Any eligible clinician who is not able to submit by April 30 will not be penalized; they simply will not be eligible for a positive adjustment to their Medicare Part B reimbursements in 2021.
Please note: If your ACO or IPA is submitting quality data on your behalf, you still need to log in to your QPP account and submit attestations for the Improvement Activities and Promoting Interoperability performance categories.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What if I already submitted my MIPS data, but my scores were low?
If you submitted your MIPS data, you will receive the same adjustments that you would have received before this announcement. This means that you will still receive a negative adjustment to your 2021 Medicare reimbursements if you submitted data that earns you fewer than 30 points (out of the potential 100 points) for your 2019 MIPS score.
What if I already submitted some of my MIPS data, but not all of it?
CMS has not issued final guidance on this yet. We strongly encourage you to try to complete your submissions, so that you will be able to maximize your scores, avoid a negative adjustment, and potentially receive a positive adjustment.
What if I submitted my MIPS data, and my scores were great?
Congratulations! You will still receive a positive adjustment to your Medicare Part B reimbursements in 2021. No further action is needed on your end. It is possible that this positive adjustment will be slightly smaller than in previous years. NYC REACH will provide more information as it becomes available.
What if there is no way I can submit my MIPS data by the extended deadline?
You will automatically be given a hardship exception by CMS and will not receive any adjustments to your Medicare Part B reimbursements in 2021.
