Healthcare professionals interested in receiving SBIRT training are invited to participate in the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s free online learning module.

SBIRT is an effective strategy to reduce risky alcohol consumption and its health consequences. The module consists of eight online lessons that will train providers to:

• Administer and score validated screening tools for alcohol and drug use
• Identify components of Motivational Interviewing techniques used during a Brief Intervention
• Identify when and how to refer patients for specialized treatment
• Apply appropriate procedure and diagnostic codes for SBIRT services

Completing this e-module fulfills the State’s training requirement for certain credentialed providers to bill Medicaid for SBIRT services. Physicians who participate may receive up to four credits of continuing medical education.
