Quality Payment Program Exception Applications Now Available

            August 17, 2018

The 2018 Quality Payment Program Exception Applications, including the Promoting Interoperability Hardship Application and MIPS Program Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Application, are now available on the Quality Payment Program website.

            Promoting Interoperability (PI) Hardship Exceptions

Eligible clinicians can submit a Quality Payment Program Hardship Exception Application for the PI performance category for one of the following reasons:

            • MIPS-eligible clinician is a small practice (new for 2018)
            • MIPS-eligible clinician is using decertified EHR technology (new for 2018)
            • Insufficient Internet connectivity
            • Extreme and uncontrollable circumstances
            • Lack of control over the availability of certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT)

Eligible clinicians must submit the application by December 31, 2018.

            Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances

MIPS-eligible clinicians impacted by extreme and uncontrollable circumstances may apply for reweighting the Quality, Cost, and Improvement Activities performance categories.

Eligible clinicians must show that these circumstances prevented them from collecting or submitting the information required for a performance category.

Eligible clinicians must submit the application by December 31, 2018.
