New Service for Patients with Uncontrolled Asthma

            September 3, 2019

The New York City Health Department’s Healthy Homes Program offers free home inspections for patients with uncontrolled asthma and works with landlords to correct maintenance issues – such as leaks, cracks and holes – that result in pests and mold. Reducing exposure to indoor triggers, such as rodents, cockroaches and mold, can improve asthma control and reduce hospitalizations and school absences. Providers can now refer patients of any age who reside in New York City to the Healthy Homes Program if they:

            • Have moderate persistent OR severe persistent asthma, AND
            • Have seen mice, rats, cockroaches or signs of these pests (e.g. shed skins, droppings, or chewed food packages) in the past month OR currently have visible mold in their home

Learn more about the program here. To refer a patient to the program, sign in to the Citywide Immunization Registry and select the patient’s record.

Please contact NYCHNP@health.nyc.gov with any questions.
