In August 2025 NYC REACH staff, Amanda Spence and Matt Gannon, had the honor of attending and presenting at CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College (KCC) graduation celebration for birth and postpartum doulas.

Amanda spoke to graduates about our Community Health Worker Certification and Student Placement Program. Matt was able to speak to doulas about how they can bill for their services through Medicaid.

Other speakers shared the work they’re doing:

• One man published a book for Fathers to be called ” The Dad’s Game Plan” helping Fathers prepare for their role and understand the different stages of pregnancy by relating it back to the different points throughout football season.
• Another woman came up with the brilliant concept of creating doula “workspaces”; a neutral third space for Doulas and pregnant women to have private family planning discussions, because their home or a public eatery (i.e. McDonalds) may not allow for that.
